“You need to nerd out”
A new phrase scattered all over the internet, romanticizing having interests and passion in niche areas. Nowadays people tend to use romanticization to feel more useful, or to cover up a main character syndrome. Most of the time it’s forced, since following whatever’s most popular on the internet is the common trend, such as clothes or interests. This brings the lack of originality in our civilization. The quote “you need to nerd out” was highlighting importance of individualism.
What people don’t understand about being a nerd, is that not all interests or daily activities allow you to be a nerd. We’re talking about extreme passion, not listing things for a college application. Being a nerd about something is from the soul, something you cannot force. So referring to specific videos on the internet, Starbucks, Netflix, etc. are technically topics you can nerd out on, but you would have to understand it in depth. Like little fun facts about the owners that no one but you really cares about, or maybe memorizing everything on the menu including the secret items. (Don’t support Starbucks though, support Palestine)
Commonly, people become highly invested in a certain hobby or subject that leads them to be an enthusiast. Reading is a common hobby, but when you delve deeper to the topic of poetry, until you hit the author of Emily Brontë as the poet. Your understanding of reading poetry becomes much more niche, or you become a “nerd” of poetry and literature.
The purpose of the resolute goal, is to eliminate the shallow being that have become from, micro trends, heavy media consumption, and the lack of personality. Once people become nerds, uncovering a part of themselves that could only be unlocked by their hands, the era of brain of media will be conquered by growth in ourselves.
It’s not about what you love, it’s about how much you love it and how much passion you dedicate to it.
